Roughriders’ Marino back in spotlight after controversial hit on Blue Bombers’ Collaros

Once again, Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive lineman Garrett Marino is getting plenty of criticism after another questionable hit in a game on Sunday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Marino, who was given a CFL record four-game suspension earlier this year for a low hit that injured Jeremiah Masoli — followed by comments made about the Redblacks quarterback’s heritage — levelled Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros after he pitched the ball late in Winnipeg’s 20-18 road win.

Collaros, the front-runner to win the league’s most outstanding player award, was not hurt and no penalty was called, but that didn’t stop the CFL community from weighing in on Twitter.

Shortly after the game, Marino, 28, made his Twitter account private.

The same two teams square off next weekend in Winnipeg in the Banjo Bowl.

In last year’s Banjo Bowl, Marino was ejected in the second quarter for throwing punches.
