Blue Jays hold players-only meeting after crushing series loss to Rays

The Toronto Blue Jays held a players-only meeting after their 6-3 loss Thursday to the Tampa Bay Rays, marking a third straight dropped series against AL East rivals.

“Look, I think think that everything gets magnified when you’re not winning,” said Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman, who stayed evasive regarding the content of the meeting. “I think there’s small things that we can take away but for the most part, we gotta play better.

“That’s just the fact of the matter, we have to play better, and I think the biggest thing we need to work on is finding ways to win games.”

Over the last 11 games, the Jays are 2-9. Toronto hasn’t been able to find consistency and was swept by the Baltimore Orioles at Rogers Centre earlier in the week.

“Players are driving this, they’re living it, they have a set of standards they live by, and right now it’s not up to their expectations,” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. “So, it carries more weight from the players. Obviously, myself and the staff are here to support that.”
