More than 69,000 pending cases in Supreme Court, more than 60 lakh in HC-Government
Indian News: The Central Government informed on Thursday that more than 69,000 cases are pending in the Supreme Court. At the same time, more than 59 lakh cases are pending in the country’s 25 High Courts. This information was provided by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in a written answer to a question in the Rajya Sabha. Citing details on the Supreme Court website, he said as of February 1 there were 69,511 pending cases at the supreme court.
Most of the cases are pending in the Allahabad High Court
He further said, according to the information available in the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) as of February 2023, there were 59,87,477 pending cases in the country’s High Court. Of these, 10.30 lakh cases are pending in the country’s largest High Court namely the Allahabad High Court. The Sikkim High Court had the lowest number of cases at 171 cases. Rijiju said the government had taken a number of initiatives to provide an “optimum environment” aimed at getting cases resolved quickly by the courts.
59,87,477 cases pending in the country’s 25 High Courts
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju informed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that 69,511 cases were pending in the country’s Supreme Court till 1 February 2023. He further said that there were 59,87,477 cases pending in all 25 High Courts across the country. According to Rijiju, the highest number of cases among the High Courts is in the Allahabad High Court (10,30,185). Moreover, Rajasthan High Court (6,40,267) is in second place.
