Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gameplay Trailer & Details Revealed

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the next title in the original Spider-Man video game series, has released its first gameplay trailer, much to the delight of ardent Spider-Man fans. This eagerly awaited installment is slated for a Fall 2023 release and teems with elements that will surely pique the interest of followers of the franchise.

The gameplay reveal shows the Great Hunt, initiated by Kraven the Hunter, making his debut in this sequel. As Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales navigate Marvel’s New York, they face both a rogues’ gallery of villains and Kraven’s hunt, posing a serious threat to the city. The protagonists’ challenges do not end here, as they also contend with an all-new Symbiote menace.

The gameplay begins with Kraven’s Hunters chasing Dr. Curt Connors, known as The Lizard, and Peter on a mission to halt them. This action unfolds in the borough of Queens, introduced as a new playable area in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The gameplay reveals Peter Parker donning the iconic and revered Black Suit, linked to the Symbiote. The Symbiote-enhanced Spider-Man exhibits a heightened level of aggression, effectively battling Kraven’s Hunters using Symbiote tendrils. Despite the fearsome appearance of the Black Suit, Kraven’s highly trained Hunters are undeterred, requiring players to employ new combat abilities such as aggressive parries, web-casting, and tactical dodges to defeat these opponents.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also features a more impulsive Peter Parker, reflecting his bond with the Symbiote, while retaining his combative finesse. The sequel delves into Peter’s personal relationship with the Symbiote and its impact on those closest to him.

Miles Morales also returns in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, adding another playable Spider-Hero to the roster. The gameplay highlights the rapid switching between the two Spider-Men and significantly enhanced traversal speed, thanks to the addition of Web Wings. These enhancements leverage the capabilities of the PS5 console’s SSD, resulting in a more immersive experience for players as they navigate the city.

The gameplay continues with Miles tracking Connors to the Harlem Fish Market, where he encounters Kraven’s Hunters. In line with the previous games, players can choose between stealth or combat-focused approaches, using new gadgets such as the Web Line and the Web Grabber to manage enemies. Miles also has new abilities, including Thunder Burst and Chain Lightning, which allow for powerful area-of-effect attacks.

Both Peter and Miles have unique skills that can be upgraded through individual skill trees. Additionally, a shared Skill Tree offers parallel upgrades for both characters. The game’s environments are denser and richer in detail, with improved lighting and spatial 3D audio, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

The Spider-Men must collaborate to track the Lizard and counteract the Hunters. They face Kraven’s well-equipped arsenal, including boats, aerial transports, and weapons. Players will experience seamless switching between the two Spider-Men during the game’s story moments.

The developers have expressed their enthusiasm for finally unveiling Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the gameplay footage. While a definitive release date is yet to be announced, the title remains on schedule for Fall 2023.
